Our Research History

Since inception, Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) has revolutionize the road pavement landscape in Malaysia

Since its incorporation, K2 Bitumen has focused on advancing Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) to bring sustainable, high-performance pavement technology to Malaysia

We have adapted internationally proven crumb-rubber techniques and led local deployment and specification work for CRMB/CRMA, collaborating with industry bodies and technical institutes to localize the technology for Malaysian climates and construction practices. K2’s technical leadership and plant-level implementation are documented in company materials and industry reports showing active promotion and deployment of CRMB in national projects.
We positioned CRMB as a practical circular-economy solution by converting waste tyres into a value-added binder modifier. The initiative responds to Malaysia’s scrap-tyre challenge by diverting end-of-life tyres into road materials, reducing landfill and open-burning risks while improving pavement durability and lifecycle performance—outcomes supported by international research on rubber-modified binders. K2’s product has since achieved national recognitions and technical registrations (including MySTI listing and related approvals), reflecting both technical compliance and its role as a pioneer in the local green-bitumen market.
Through partnerships with academic and government stakeholders (technical institutes, REAM, JKR collaborations, and university R&D), K2 helped shape CRMB specifications and demonstration projects that validate performance benefits—longer service life, improved rutting and aging resistance, and reduced maintenance frequency. These practical outcomes strengthen K2’s case that CRMB delivers environmental and economic advantages for Malaysian roads while contributing to broader national waste-management and low-carbon objectives.

Harnessing Local Expertise & Global Insights

At K2 Bitumen, innovation is powered by the integration of local expertise and global research excellence. From our R&D Centre and advanced manufacturing plant in Ipoh, Perak, we develop and refine Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) that meets the unique demands of Malaysia’s tropical climate and heavy traffic conditions.
Our research adopts a holistic and data-driven approach, combining Malaysian field studies with international best practices to ensure superior performance, durability, and sustainability. Through active collaboration with JKR, REAM, and leading universities, we align our innovations with national standards (JKR Section 4, REAM-SP 7/2018) and Malaysia’s green technology agenda.
Supported by global technical partnerships, our team continuously enhances binder formulation, recycling efficiency, and production technology. This fusion of local insight and global intelligence positions K2 Bitumen as a pioneer in delivering eco-conscious, high-performance road solutions built for long-term resilience and environmental responsibility.
