UiTM & K2 Bitumen Renew MoU to Advance Sustainable Bitumen Innovation & Cold Patch CRMA Development

On 24 June 2025, K2 Bitumen Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen research collaboration in the field of green modified bitumen technology.

The signing ceremony took place as part of an ongoing commitment to drive sustainable infrastructure development in Malaysia through academic-industry partnerships.

The renewed MoU sets the stage for the development and launch of a Cold Patch Mix using Crumb Rubber Modified Asphalt (CRMA)—a new innovation designed for more efficient and environmentally friendly road repairs. This effort builds upon prior collaboration in enhancing Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) and introduces new research avenues that support Malaysia’s ESG and low-carbon infrastructure goals.

A Strategic Partnership for Greener Roads

The Cold Patch CRMA mix, developed in collaboration with UiTM’s Institute for Infrastructure Engineering and Sustainable Management (IIESM), is tailored to offer high workability, quick application, and reduced carbon emissions, making it ideal for urban and remote road maintenance.

This initiative complements K2 Bitumen’s growing portfolio of sustainable bitumen solutions, including CRMB, and paves the way for new eco-innovations in pavement technology. Both parties expressed their commitment to pushing the boundaries of R&D in recycled material-based binders, targeting long-term performance, environmental compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
